Meet the Author
Marcus Chen is a board game enthusiast, certified tabletop gaming judge, and former game cafe owner based in Portland, Oregon. With over 12 years of experience in competitive and casual gaming — from running weekly game nights at his cafe to judging regional tabletop tournaments — Marcus brings a unique perspective that blends competitive insight with accessibility.
Marcus has personally playtested over 1,500 board games across every genre: heavy euros, light party fillers, cooperative adventures, and everything in between. He understands that the “best” game is meaningless if it doesn’t fit your group, your schedule, or your budget.

- Extended Evaluation — We play 5+ sessions over 30 days to assess replayability. Games that fade over time get called out
- Annual Re-Review — Top picks are retested yearly. New editions, expansions, and better alternatives all get factored in
- Value Assessment — We compare price-to-quality ratio and identify budget alternatives that perform nearly as well
